Dear Readers,

With gratitude, I assume the role of the Editor in chief of “Current Medical Issues (CMI),” the official publication of Christian Medical College, Vellore. As I take charge, I reflect the year 1997 when I entered the hallowed portals of CMC, Vellore, as a teenaged MBBS student. I am privileged to now be given this responsibility to carry one of the visions of my alma mater in the area of research.

The primary motto of the CMC, Vellore, is to develop through education and training, compassionate, professionally excellent, ethically sound individuals who will go out as servant-leaders of health teams and healing communities. Their service may be in promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative, or palliative aspects of health care, in education or in research. In the area of research, CMC strives to understand God's purposes and designs, fostering a spirit of inquiry, commitment to truth, and high ethical standards. Research may be aimed at gaining knowledge of the fundamental basis of health and disease, at improving interventions, or in optimising the use of resources. This journal reflects this precise vision of our institution to broadcast knowledge on a large scale across the globe. It also aims to provide content that is relevant to doctors in primary- and secondary-level hospitals, in order to enhance the quality of clinical care through improvement in knowledge, attitudes, and skills. I look forward to the continued patronage of the CMC diaspora in supporting the cause of this journal.

This is the last issue of the year 2019, and it marks 3 years of regular quarterly online publications of “CMI” by Wolters Kluwer-Medknow, thanks to my predecessor, Dr. Tony Abraham Thomas, who was largely responsible in elevating the journal to its current standard. I will continue to look forward to his advice and guidance through his experience throughout my term.

Having the privilege of serving as an associate editor of CMI before, I understand the nuances and importance of critical peer-review process and ethical considerations in manuscripts' handling in order to ensure high scientific values of publication in our journal and the importance of efficiency of the editorial team. Together, with the dynamic team of our new editorial board, I will work passionately to take the journal to the next level. As I look forward to this new role, I welcome input from you, our readers, and contributors to enhance the overall quality of the journal. I would also love to hear from you as well – your comments and suggestions. Please send in your clinical queries, comments, and suggestions in the attached inland letter or write to us by E-mail.
