New Registration System for Pharmacists in India Top

The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has launched a national digital platform for registration and tracking of pharmacists titled “Pharmacist Registration and Tracking System.” Accordingly, all the registered pharmacists in the country are requested to fill their pharmacist registration details by registering and logging into the user management system provided in the official website of PCI. The system has been launched early this month in New Delhi for pharmacists registered with Delhi State Pharmacy Council. The same will be rolled out throughout the country by December 1, 2018. PCI believes that this system will provide information on demographics of pharmacists in the country, their employment status, and their area of work (e.g., hospital, educational institutions, community pharmacy, or pharmaceutical industry). The system requires only registered pharmacists (with respective state pharmacy councils) to update their data. Based on the information collected by the system, the council is set to draft policies to address challenges faced by the pharmacy profession. The system may also help address certain malpractices in the profession as it will ensure registration of only qualified pharmacists. It will also prevent pharmacists from unauthorized renting of the registration certificate. A pharmacist needs to upload information onto the system whenever he/she gets employed by company/institution or switches the employment. The system also applies for pharmacists registered within India and work abroad.
